Russian compatriots from the Baltic countries to discuss minority rights in Riga

Russian compatriots from the Baltic countries will hold two major events in the Moscow House in Riga, on August 27-28, reported their organizers to BNS.
On Saturday from 15.30 to 18.30, a round-table discussion on “Legal Status of Russians in the Baltic States” will be held, and on Sunday a regional conference of Russian compatriots in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, “The rights of minorities - a necessary condition for democracy and integration society in the Baltic States” will take place.
Delegations of 15 people from Lithuania and Estonia are invited to these events in Riga.
The representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ombudsman, representatives of the Riga City Council, the Russian Embassy in Latvia, including the ambassador Alexander Veshnyakov, and the guests from Russia are invited to participate in the round table and conference.
Two plenary sessions will take place during the conference.
In addition to guests from Moscow, the heads of delegations of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, VI Gushin, A. Fomin, and AB Krasnoglazov and MEP Tatjana Zdanok and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Boris Cilevics will make presentations at the first meeting.
At the second plenary meeting, the issue of electing a representative to the World Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots from Lithuania will be reviewed, reports of the heads of sections will be granted a hearing and the outcome of the conference will be accepted.
Among them - the resolution “On the historically conditioned character of the residence of Russian communities in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia,” the resolution “On the legal status of Russians in the Baltic countries,” an open letter to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev “The recognition of non-general elections in Latvia and Estonia as meeting accepted standards of democracy in Europe leads to the deterioration of the legal status of national minorities in the Baltic States”, an open letter to the leaders of the Council of Europe, PACE, European Parliament, the ICRC as an associate member of the Information Department of the United Nations and the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Latvia and Lithuania “On need of immediate liquidation of long-term deficit of democracy in Latvia and Estonia”, the resolution “On the growth of the threat of neo-Nazism in the Baltic countries”.
