For many centuries the people had worked and created, fought and made peace, they had built and destroyed.

But all their works and undertakings have always been subjected to the control and criticism from the government.

Since the formation of society, there was the power of the individual or the community over individuals.

In ancient society the power belonged to the strongest male soldier who was superior to his commoners in mind and strength.

Authority of elders and the national assembly dominated in more developed agricultural communities.

In further development of the history, the states and entire civilizations were created and destroyed.

Great discoveries were made, great wars were carried out. But any event in the lives of ordinary people or the whole communities were still controlled by the government.

Power existed and exists in any society: in small tribes of ancient people and in wealthy countries of modern Europe.

According to its nature, the power may be monarchical (absolutism, autocracy) or democratic (democracy).

In any society, the power belongs to one of these forms, although any particular forms of governance of people can manifest themselves in different parts of the world because of different religious beliefs and customs.

Society and its further development depend on these features. Both democracy and monarchy have both advantages and disadvantages. These pros and cons have a direct impact on society.

People are still arguing about the superiority of democracy over monarchy, or vice versa.

Democracy as a form of control was originated from ancient times.

Perhaps democracy has existed in the ancient communities of hunters and gatherers, but what is known for sure that the first democratic state was Sumerian city in Mesopotamia.

But democracy, in our modern sense, came into being in ancient Greece.

The word “democracy” in Greek means “people’s power”. “People’s Power” is a very appropriate title for the state of Athens. Indeed, the main authority in Athens was people’s assembly.

Thanks to the democratic structure of the state, there was civil society in Athens. For the first time, all citizens have equal rights, regardless of class or wealth.

Thus, a real democratic state based on civil society first appeared in ancient Greece.

Scheme of the State, created by ancient Greeks, was so successful that came to our days, only slightly enhanced, rather complicated.

In today’s world, most states have democratic organization.

Countries with developed economies and industries, ranging from light industry and ending with the heavy and manufacturing industries involved in sheet metal forming and fabrication of clothing, as well as countries where there are separate tribes until now, often have a democratic structure.

But the United States of America are the true custodians and the founders of modern democracy.
